Electronics Diagnostics Technician — Rail Automation (Level II)
Pioneering in America, from the first mile to the last
For over 160 years, Siemens has helped build and modernize the infrastructure that keeps the U.S. moving. Today, in rail automation and digitalization, we’re transforming safety, punctuality, and reliability for transit and freight alike. Curious what energizes our teams? Watch: What excites our people about Siemens Mobility Rail Infrastructure?
A day in the life
You start your shift reviewing a repair ticket for a rail signaling PCB. With the schematic and BOM pulled up, you trace the issue to a component-level fault, verify it with an oscilloscope, and perform clean, standards-based rework. After a point-to-point continuity check, you run the unit through Bench Test Equipment to confirm it meets engineering specifications. Before moving on, you log results, inspect labels and hardware, tidy your station per 5S, and assist a teammate with a tricky desoldering pass. Every task, every test, moves a train closer to its destination—safely and on time.
What you will do
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and test electronic, electrical, and mechanical assemblies to engineering specs.
- Interpret assembly drawings, schematics, bills of material, and test procedures with precision.
- Perform visual quality checks on labels and hardware; execute point‑to‑point continuity checks before electrical tests.
- Use test equipment such as multimeters, function generators, oscilloscopes, power supplies, wave analyzers, and Bench Test Equipment (BTE).
- Carry out component‑level PCB soldering and desoldering.
- Follow safety guidelines, including proper PPE usage, and uphold 5S standards to maintain a clean, orderly workspace.
- Apply a working knowledge of common hand/power tools and electronic test gear.
- Collaborate closely with the Team Lead and fellow Repair Technicians; report to the Production Supervisor and/or Team Leader.
