Procurement Specialist
We are looking for a Purchasing Agent to support material procurement and vendor coordination within a steel fabrication and construction environment. This role is responsible for ensuring all materials are sourced accurately, cost-effectively, and delivered on time to support production schedules. The position works closely with production, project teams, and vendors to maintain workflow efficiency and inventory accuracy. This is a hands-on role suited for someone detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
Responsibilities
- Compile material lists and place orders based on project requirements and production schedules
- Coordinate with vendors to secure pricing, availability, and delivery timelines within budget constraints
- Review and verify vendor confirmations to ensure accuracy and proper documentation
- Maintain ordering schedules to support ongoing production needs and project timelines
- Track and update material orders, supplier details, and delivery dates within internal systems
- Manage inventory levels, including allocating stock to jobs and ordering consumables as needed
- Coordinate with production teams to provide material availability updates and required documentation
- Support production turnover by preparing material lists, pull sheets, and related documentation
- Negotiate pricing with suppliers to optimize cost efficiency and maintain margins
- Communicate with internal stakeholders including project managers and leadership regarding material status
Requirements
- Experience in steel construction, fabrication, or related industrial environment required
- Strong understanding of material takeoffs and construction-related purchasing processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and email communication
- Ability to perform basic math calculations including fractions and material quantities
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in ordering and documentation
- Effective communication skills with vendors, internal teams, and leadership
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities
- High school diploma required; degree in business, finance, or related field preferred
