Police Officer – Lower Gwynedd Township, Montgomery County, PA
The Lower Gwynedd Township Police Department in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania is now administering a free online test for an entry level police officer position. The department is an accredited agency with 22 full-time officers.

A Lower Gwynedd police officer job description includes patrolling areas, responding to calls, enforcing laws, conducting investigations, and protecting life and property. Officers are expected to maintain effective communication, build working relationships, and uphold the department's mission to enhance community safety and quality of life through partnership, crime prevention, and problem-solving. Specific duties involve responding to the needs of the community, maintaining peace, and identifying and apprehending offenders.
Requirements:
- High school graduate / GED
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have a current, valid driver’s license
- Physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer
- Must have reached their twenty-first (21st) birthday prior to receiving a conditional offer
- Must not have a felony or family violence conviction
- No Act 120 certification needed
As of 2026:
Starting base pay as a probationary officer or at the start of the police academy: $95,396
Full base pay after five years of service: $136,281
In addition to base pay, officers receive up to 8% longevity pay, paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick leave, tuition reimbursement, health insurance (medical, dental, vision, and prescription), $5,000 contribution per year in a Health Savings Account provided by the Township, insurance opt out bonus, a defined benefit pension, tuition reimbursement, parental leave, and other benefits.
The free online test will be open from November 1, 2025 until December 31, 2025. A physical agility test will take place in January 2026.
There is no fee to take the test!
TEST
Free Online Test:
- A minimum score of 70% is required to pass.
- Only candidates who pass the online test will advance to the Physical Agility Test .
Physical Agility Test:
- Consists of the following events:
- Sit- ups
- 300-meter sprint
- Push- ups
- 1.5-mile run
- Minimum performance standards are based on the applicant’s age and gender .
- Refer to the chart in the test announcement on the Police Department website for specific requirements.
- Candidates must pass both the Physical Agility Test and the Written Test to be considered for employment.
Oral Interview Assessment:
- Conducted at a later date.
- Candidates who pass both the written and physical tests will be notified if they have been selected to participate.
Background Investigation:
- Conducted during the interview stage.
Polygraph Examination:
- Applicants who advance will be required to complete a polygraph test.
Final Interview:
- Conducted with the Board of Supervisors , Chief of Police , and community members .
