Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratories are seeking skilled individuals to join theReclamation and Remediation Operations (RRO)team, a key part of the Radiological Infrastructure and Operations Group. The RRO team is responsible for the safe and efficient stabilization and preparation for demolition of legacy radiological facilities, ensuring proper management and disposal of associated waste streams.

As anEnvironmental Health Technician (EHT), you will be directly involved in the use of processes and equipment to generate, handle, and properly manage regulated waste. Working in areas with potential hazards-including radiological materials, asbestos, PCBs, and other safety risks-you will be responsible for the safe execution of work activities and ensuring compliance with strict safety and environmental regulations.Your role will require hands-on use of equipment to safely create and manage waste streams, as well as adherence to detailed procedures for packaging, labeling, and disposal practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate as part of a safety-focused team to support the successful completion of demolition and remediation projects while minimizing environmental impact. Operate tools, machinery, and processes to generate and manage regulated waste streams from facility remediation and demolition activities. Consistently follow written instructions, drawings, and quality standards to safely execute tasks with first-time accuracy. Recognize and safely handle materials such as radiological waste, asbestos, PCBs, and other hazardous substances generated during work. Comply with environmental and safety requirements for waste classification, accumulation, packaging, labeling, and disposal in accordance with EPA, OSHA, and PADEP standards. Maintain waste accumulation areas and ensure all waste handling is properly documented to satisfy inspection and regulatory requirements.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or

Associates degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Journeymans Papers in a related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Qualification as a Naval Nuclear Propulsion Operator (or commercial nuclear equivalent) and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.

Preferred Skills

Demonstrated experience in industrial, laboratory, or remediation settings involving tools, equipment, or machinery used in handling hazardous materials.

Understanding of industrial and site safety requirements, such as confined spaces, elevated work, excavation, LOTO, and handling materials such as lead, asbestos, radiological, or silica. Familiarity with detailed procedures tied to quality standards, including ASTM specifications, technical drawings, or environmental compliance parameters. Knowledge of hazardous and toxic waste generation practices and compliance with EPA, OSHA, and PADEP safety standards. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and strong written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to work in a team environment to solve technical challenges and ensure safe operations under stringent safety protocols. Military experience.

Pay Range

$63,300.00 - $96,900.00 annually Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
