Professional Staff Nurse, Labor & Delivery
UPMC Hamot is hiring a Professional Staff Nurse to join our Labor & Delivery team in the Women’s Hospital!
This position offers flexible working conditions and opportunities to work across areas in Labor & Delivery and Antepartum, with advancement to OB Triage. RNs work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams to provide safe, compassionate care for women in all stages of pregnancy, supporting patients and providers throughout the continuum of obstetric care.
This position is full-time, rotating day/night shifts. Occasional weekend and holiday coverage required.
Previous nursing experience required.

Sign-On Bonus Details (Full-Time status)
• $15,000 sign-on bonus available for nurses with over one year of experience
Up to five and a half weeks of Paid Time Off annually, plus seven paid holidays each year
Tuition reimbursement of up to $6,000 per academic year at any accredited institution, available to employees and their dependents (plus discounts for UPMC employees including no cost RN-BSN/MSN options!)
Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience.
Purpose: The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse who sets and upholds standards of care while managing and providing patient care through independent judgment, communication, and collaboration. This role involves leadership, partnership, and supervision, fostering strong relationships with physicians, healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve optimal outcomes across the continuum of care. Committed to both the community and the nursing profession, the Professional Staff Nurse ensures high-quality, patient-centered care through teamwork and accountability.
Responsibilities:
- Builds productive relationships internally and externally through accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment to patients and colleagues.
- Demonstrates cultural awareness and promotes healthy peer relationships.
- Maintains balance between work and personal life; models safe work hours and time management.
- Communicates workplace safety hazards to peers and management.
- Applies adult learning principles in teaching patients, families, students, and new staff; provides clear education for care transitions.
- Supports development of students and new staff; may serve as a preceptor and fosters open dialogue and continuous improvement.
- Uses the nursing process within Relationship-Based Care to create a healing environment and individualized care plans.
- Demonstrates critical thinking in addressing clinical, social, psychological, and spiritual needs; communicates effectively with care teams.
- Ensures comprehensive documentation to support communication and continuity of care.
- Aligns practice with organizational goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction; builds compassionate, healing relationships.
- Takes accountability for professional growth and actively participates in shared governance and change initiatives.
- Serves as an engaged team member, adapting to change and supporting colleagues.
- Participates in quality improvement efforts; identifies opportunities and uses evidence-based practice to enhance care.
