Yard Manager

Summary

Wehrung's is seeking Yard Managers for both our Ottsville and Macungie PA locations. The Yard Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the lumber yard operations which include the warehouse, receiving and shipping departments at the assigned location. In this position you will interact daily with all employees (in the store and outside yard) as well as customers and vendors. The Yard Manager ensures that each department operates in a safe and efficient manner reducing damage, following strict adherence to the cycle count schedule to ensure inventory levels are regularly verified, utilizing proper inventory controls measures, reducing unnecessary waste of company resources, and last but not least holding the team to the high standard of Great Customer Service.

Responsibilities

• Supports the Receiving and Shipping departments with all activities as it relates to the facility as a whole
• Make sure that every warehouse/yard employee follows all company policies and procedures
• Enforce safety protocol
• Record all customer complaints and inquiries
• Evaluate performance of direct reports and complete and provide performance review feedback to employees as scheduled
• Ensure that the team keeps the facility clean and organized
• Other duties as assigned by management
• Recognize opportunities for improvement, and turn that quickly into decisive, confident, and proactive action
• Understands, or is willing to learn, enough about each position to train others as well as substitute when needed
• Identify and respond to the need for personnel changes at the yard
• Assist in the hiring of new staff as needed
• Identify and articulate performance expectations to employees
• Ensures equipment operators are trained in all aspects of safe and efficient vehicle use

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• The Yard Manager supervises the Shipping and Receiving Supervisors, along with the Warehouse/Yard associates

Requirements

• Excellent time management skills

o Punctuality and proper time management enhance productivity. The individual in this role must utilize excellent time-management skills to ensure customers get their products efficiently and safely, improving relationships and brand image.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

o The Yard Manager must learn to communicate concisely and clearly with staff and customers. The individual in this role must be confident, maintain emotional control and carry themselves in a professional manner all while facilitating teamwork and collaboration with other individuals in the logistics chain.

• Technical aptitude and familiarity with various machines and equipment

o The Yard Manager utilizes various machines and equipment during the workday. This individual must understand how to use and manipulate these machines/equipment and set the example for safe operation. In addition, the Yard Manager is responsible for conducting training and maintaining paperwork for forklift certifications for new and existing employees.

• Strong analytical skills

o The Yard Manager must have the ability to collect and deconstruct information in order to arrive at logical conclusions. They need to demonstrate creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking skills when analyzing any situation.

• Ability to adapt to changing situations

o The Yard Manager should be able to comfortably adapt to different situations to thrive in a fast-paced environment and excel under pressure.

Physical Requirements:

• Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time
• Exposure to extreme temperatures on occasion
• Bending or stooping
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Education and Experience:

• High School diploma or GED required
• Previous experience verifying appropriate material handling safety procedures are followed for delivery loads

Schedule: 45+ hours per weekMonday through Friday, occasional weekend availability is a must.

Pay Range: Salaried, commensurate with experience
