General Description
Under the direction of the Coordinator, Environmental Services, the Groundskeeper performs various tasks related to the maintenance of the exterior grounds of the College campus to ensure the environment is clean, orderly, and safe throughout all seasons. Primary responsibilities include cutting and maintaining lawns and grass, raking leaves and caring for plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs, minor servicing of fixtures, loading/unloading supplies; trash and snow/ice removal; and other similar duties. This position is considered an “essential employee” in accordance with the College’s Emergency Operations Plan.

Specific Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness of external grounds and walkways using hand tools, small trucks and equipment.
- Empty trash containers and remove trash, leaves and other debris from walkway and seating areas.
- Conduct simple servicing and maintenance of FF & E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment).
- Maintain college lawn through planting, mulching, weeding, mowing, and trimming using various types of equipment (i.e. Green Machine, saws, trucks, tractors, sprayers, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, blowers, and hand pruners).
- Monitor college grounds to assess damage and wear to pavement, parking lines, sidewalks, and storm drains.
- Report the need for major repairs to supervision.
- Apply anti-graffiti materials and remove graffiti from exterior surfaces of campus.
- Maintain proper inventory and maintenance of supplies and work and shop area.
- Operate light trucks and assorted power equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance on assigned equipment.
- Load/unload and transport supplies and materials to various buildings on campus.
- Collect and remove any illegally dumped debris from college grounds and notify the Public Safety department.
- Removal of snow and ice from walkways and driveways using various types of snow removal equipment.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown for interior and exterior college events, as needed.
- Follow pre-established department guidelines and adhere to safety standards.
- Deliver quality customer services to internal constituents in a professional, helpful and courteous manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or G.E.D equivalent is required.
- Relevant work experience required.
- Must possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to read and execute simple written or verbal instructions required.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time in varying temperatures required.
- Ability to demonstrate reasonable judgment required.
- Ability to lift and/or move 50 lbs. regularly and lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to work extended hours, as needed, is required.
