Computer networking teacher
Overview
Adams County Technical Institute (ACTI) is seeking a qualified and passionate Computer Networking Teacher to join our Career and Technical Education (CTE) department. This role is responsible for delivering engaging, hands-on instruction in Computer Systems Networking and Telecommunications (CIP Code 11.0901) to high school students preparing for careers in information technology, networking, and cybersecurity. This program is designed to provide students with foundational and advanced knowledge of network systems, including network design, implementation, troubleshooting, security, and administration.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement a standards-aligned curriculum based on CIP Code 11.0901.
Teach foundational and advanced computer networking concepts including:
o Network protocols and architecture
o LAN/WAN technologies
o Network hardware and operating systems
o Network security principles
o Wireless networking
o Virtualization and cloud technologies
Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+).
Integrate hands-on lab activities and project-based learning.
Maintain an up-to-date, safe, and engaging learning environment.
Collaborate with industry partners, postsecondary institutions, and colleagues to ensure
program relevance.
Participate in school and district professional development and CTE advisory committee
meetings.
Maintain student records, track competencies, and evaluate performance.
Provide career guidance and mentorship to students.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology, Networking, Computer Science,
or a related field.
Valid state teaching certification in CTE or willingness to obtain one (alternative
certification pathways may be available).
Industry experience in computer networking or IT-related fields.
Ability to pass a background check and meet all ACTI employment requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching high school or adult learners.
Industry certifications such as:
o CompTIA Network+, Security+, A+
o Cisco CCNA
o Microsoft, AWS, or other relevant networking/cloud credentials
Familiarity with CTE frameworks, Perkins V requirements, or CIP code alignment.
Experience using simulation tools and hardware labs (e.g., Cisco Packet Tracer, GNS3).
