Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health provides direct professional nursing care to patients within a psychiatric and behavioral health setting. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, planning and implementing individualized care plans, monitoring patient progress, administering medications and treatments, and evaluating patient outcomes to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to behavioral health and psychiatric patients.
• Assess patient physical, emotional, and psychological conditions and develop individualized care plans.
• Monitor patient behavior, safety, and response to treatment interventions.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and facility policies.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation within EMR systems.
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, physicians, social workers, therapists, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Utilize therapeutic communication techniques to support patients and families.
• Respond appropriately to crisis situations using de-escalation and safety intervention techniques.
• Ensure compliance with patient confidentiality, safety standards, and hospital policies.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
• Participate in patient care planning, treatment meetings, and interdisciplinary rounds.
• Maintain a safe therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Minimum Requirements

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Experience

• Minimum one (1) year of full-time psychiatric nursing or behavioral health experience preferred.

License / Certification

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Pennsylvania.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) certification or willingness to obtain and maintain certification.
