Robotics AS/RS Cell Operator (HMI)
Shape the flow of a next‑gen warehouse
At Symbotic, our Customer Operations team runs the day-to-day heartbeat of our robotic material handling system. As a Robotics AS/RS Cell Operator (HMI), you’ll keep an automated cell ready, safe, and performing at its peak while partnering closely with onsite customers to drive quality, safety, and system performance.
A day in this role
Your shift begins with readiness: you inspect automated adapters and confirm the cell is set to run. Pallets are staged for induction, and you use HMI terminals to manage the flow across manual inbound, automatic inbound, and automatic outbound so throughput and cases-per-hour stay on target. If something stops, you diagnose the cause via the HMI and with hands-on intervention, recover the system, and escalate issues to leadership without delay.
Between runs, you preserve uptime—performing inspections, cleaning, lubrication, tolerance checks, and component validation. You’ll report any out-of-spec conditions, drive root-cause corrective actions, and keep components operating continuously. On the floor and inside the structure, you’ll practice clear two-way radio etiquette, execute rover bot upkeep (wheels, cleaning, ESD brushes, sensors, and more), and recover automated robotic vehicles within the Symbotic Matrix select system—even in tight, restrictive areas. Other duties may be assigned by leadership as needed.
What you’ll tackle
- Complete pre-production checks so automated adapters are ready to run.
- Use HMI to monitor and control AS/RS flow across manual and automatic inbounds and outbound, maximizing throughput.
- Induct and prepare pallets for storage and retrieval.
- Troubleshoot stoppages; restore operation via HMI interaction and manual recovery steps.
- Immediately communicate and escalate production-impacting issues to operational leadership.
- Elevate system uptime through system preservation, robot recovery, suspect removal, and bot health activities.
- Conduct periodic system inspections: cleaning, lubrication, tolerance verification, component validation.
- Identify out-of-spec conditions; drive root-cause corrective action to maintain continuous operation.
- Follow proper radio etiquette when coordinating with leaders and operational leads.
- Perform rover bot maintenance, including wheel replacement, cleaning, ESD brush and sensor care.
- Recover automated robotic vehicles in the Symbotic Matrix select system, including work in restrictive spaces.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
What you bring
- Associate degree, certification, or equivalent experience in electronics, automotive, automation, manufacturing, or a related field (preferred).
- 1+ year of hands-on experience with mechanical automation systems (or educational/training equivalent).
- Skilled in inspection fundamentals: cleaning, lubrication, tolerance checks, current measurements, and electrical system verification.
- Ability to prioritize work to maximize cell uptime and throughput.
- Proven commitment to safe work practices.
- Self-directed and able to follow procedures and manuals with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable multitasking across concurrent responsibilities.
- Proficiency: Warehouse experience.
Where you’ll work
- Accessing the structure requires climbing steep stairs and operating near high railings.
- Indoor environment with weather protection but varying temperatures; able to work from 105° to 32° Fahrenheit.
- When on an active construction site, required PPE includes hard hat, safety vest, steel-toe footwear, safety glasses, hearing protection, and fall protection (e.g., safety harness).
- Frequently lift up to 50 lbs safely and efficiently; move items up to 80 lbs.
- Stand and walk for 10–12 hours; frequent reaching with hands and arms.
- Work at heights up to 45 feet and within restrictive spaces as narrow as 24 inches; standing, climbing/balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling may be required.
- Capable of occasional and/or sustained: feeling, seeing, hearing, bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, balancing, gripping, climbing, crawling, sitting, handling objects, and repetitive motion with both hands and feet. Must follow all safety requirements and protocols, including Lockout/Tagout and fall protection.
