Grundy Memorial Museum and the Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library. Today, the Foundation stewards the resources bestowed to it to serve these civic-minded purposes, and partners with individuals, businesses, and grantors to enhance its impact in its service communities. Position Summary: Performs routine janitorial and building maintenance tasks related to the proper functioning of facilities, fixtures, equipment, and systems in our library, museum, and foundation office. Always performs tasks using facilities maintenance best practices while providing excellent customer service and meeting the high standards as a representative of the Grundy Foundation.
Primary duties: Cleans the interior of buildings including floors, carpet, rugs, windows, and walls in staff areas, kitchens, and rest rooms. Disinfects restrooms and commonly used items like desks, door handles, office tools, and phones. Performs routine building maintenance tasks including minor plumbing repairs and light bulb replacement. Performs basic repair of all furniture and equipment found in buildings and on grounds. Assesses and addresses any issues noted on Incident Reports or reported directly to Building Custodian. Schedules repairs or maintenance with Office Administrator and procures necessary materials. Maintains work area and equipment in clean and orderly condition. Responds to emergency and preventive maintenance requests as required. Supports events as needed. Assists with other Foundation tasks as required.
Qualifications: Knowledge and experience in basic cleaning procedures and using cleaning equipment and materials. Knowledge of and experience using basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting equipment. Knowledge and experience using equipment and materials above to make minor repairs. Ability to follow directions and perform assignments as scheduled. Ability to be self-motivated, efficient, proactive, work independently, and make decisions based on good business practices. Must be comfortable working in a team environment consisting of employees and outside contractors. Effective oral and written communication skills. Flexible work hours. Must be able to pass a three-part background certification.
Education and Experience: High school diploma required. Previous building maintenance/janitorial experience preferred.
Physical and Environmental Conditions: Work regularly demands moderate physical effort in the handling of materials, boxes, carts, and equipment, as well as manual dexterity. Work requires standing, stooping, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time, and ladder climbing. The work environment involves everyday risks which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting rooms, and libraries, e.g., the safe use of workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of safety regulations. Must be able to lift and carry about to 50 lbs.
Hours and Compensation: 40 hours per week, flexible work hours including evenings and weekends. Compensation dependent on education and experience.
