Payroll Specialist

The Pottsville Area School District is seeking an experienced full-time Payroll Specialist to join our Business Office team.

Pottsville Area School District serves approximately 2,600 students in Schuylkill County and employs 500+ full and part time employees.

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing payroll for all district staff, maintaining accurate employee records, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and supporting the day to day functions of the Business Office.

Primary responsibilities

• Process biweekly payroll for all employee groups
• Maintain payroll records, time sheets, and attendance data
• Prepare payroll reports and reconcile payroll accounts
• Process deductions, benefit enrollments, and wage adjustments
• Ensure compliance with state and federal wage and tax laws
• Provide support for HR, benefits, PSERS reporting, and auditing requests
• Communicate effectively with employees regarding payroll questions

Qualifications

• Prior payroll experience REQUIRED. You must have been responsible for running the payroll process from start to finish.
• Experience in a school district or public sector environment preferred.
• Knowledge of payroll systems, timekeeping, and employment regulations.
• Familiarity with PSERS and school employee classifications is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and confidentiality.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.

• Must be dedicated to the processing deadlines, which may include working during school breaks

Pay: $35,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
