Location: Greater Pittsburgh Region - Warrendale, PA (Hybrid work schedule)

Executive Summary:

The Director of IT Data & AI is a strategic business partner as well as a hands‑on technical leader responsible for building, modernizing, and operating the organization’s core data platforms, analytics ecosystem, AI capabilities, and database environments (on‑prem and cloud). This role blends architecture, engineering, administration, and project delivery—driving business transformation through data migrations, platform modernization, actionable analytics, and responsible AI.

What You'll Do:

• Enterprise Data, Analytics & AI Strategy + Business Partnership :
  • Translate business needs into actionable data, analytics, automation, and AI solutions.
  • Serve as the primary business relationship manager for data & AI across all business units.
  • Build and maintain a realistic modernization roadmap spanning platforms, analytics, governance, and AI adoption.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts in clear business terms and ensure alignment on priorities, timelines, and expected outcomes.

• Data Platforms, Engineering & Database Administration :

  • Lead hands‑on architecture, engineering, and operations of Azure Synapse, Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, SQL Server, and cloud databases.
  • Build and manage ingestion, ETL/ELT pipelines, transformations, automation frameworks, and environment optimization.
  • Oversee DBA functions including backups, performance tuning, patching, and data lifecycle management across hybrid environments.
  • Ensure reliability, scalability, performance, and security across core data and analytical systems.
• Business Transformation, Migrations & Cross‑Functional Delivery:
  • Lead enterprise data migrations associated with modernization efforts, application upgrades, and system retirements.
  • Oversee data mapping, cleansing, validation, cutover planning, archival, and compliance activities.
  • Deliver actionable reporting, dashboards, semantic models, and decision‑support capabilities for operational teams.
  • Engage directly with finance, operations, sales, customer care, HR, and field teams to deliver practical, high‑value solutions.
• AI/ML, Automation & Center of Excellence Leadership:
  • Implement practical AI/ML solutions including forecasting, anomaly detection, copilots, automation, and GenAI retrieval/summarization tools.
  • Establish and lead a Data Analytics & AI Center of Excellence (CoE) to drive standards, best practices, governance, and shared patterns.

  • Build organizational capability in Fabric, Power BI, AI tooling, automation, and modern data engineering practices.

  • Ensure responsible and secure use of AI with clear technical, ethical, and security guardrails.

• Governance, Security, Enablement & Citizen Development:

  • Implement pragmatic data governance including quality rules, definitions, lineage, metadata, and access policies.

  • Own data retention, archival, defensible deletion, and compliance with cybersecurity, privacy, and regulatory requirements.

  • Enable and oversee citizen development across Power BI, Power Platform, and Fabric with proper guardrails, standards, and approval workflows.

  • Provide education, coaching, environment setup, and tooling to support secure self‑service analytics and automation.

What You'll Need:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience supporting analytical and technical problem-solving.

• Demonstrated leadership delivering enterprise data, analytics, and platform modernization initiatives with measurable outcomes.

• Hands-on experience architecting and operating hybrid data platforms and databases (on‑prem + cloud).

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft data/analytics stack such as Fabric, Synapse, Data Factory, SQL Server, and related ecosystem tooling.

• Proven ability to build and govern ETL/ELT pipelines, data models, and semantic layers that scale.

• Experience implementing practical AI/ML and/or GenAI solutions with measurable business impact.

• Experience establishing and operating governance processes (definitions, quality rules, lineage/metadata, access, retention).

• Strong partnering skills with cross-functional stakeholders and Cyber Security; ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Proficiency leading delivery using Agile practices (backlogs, sprints, prioritization, iterative delivery). Experience building organizational capability by mentoring staff, developing technical and analytical skills, establishing standards, and creating structured learning paths across engineering, analytics, and citizen developers.
