Position: Landscape / Landcare Field Technician

Position Type: Full-time, non-exempt, hourly

Location: Plumsteadville, PA

Compensation: $22-$25/hr

Land Stewards, LLC is a niche ecological landscape firm, providing design, build, and management services focused on naturalistic gardens and natural area management throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. Our designs aim to integrate ecological functions into our built environments while our management strategies mimic natural processes.

We are currently seeking a landscape practitioner to perform hands-on ecological landcare to support project goals. The landscape practitioner works in a fast-paced, small-team dynamic–assisting with hands-on implementation and contributing to high-quality outcomes. Our ideal candidate has demonstrated experience understanding and working with native plant communities of the mid-Atlantic and has working knowledge of ecological and horticultural practices.

Responsibilities:

• Naturalistic garden establishment including de-sodding, planting, and mulching.
• Native garden and natural areas management including weeding, pruning, selective line trimming, spot spraying, and invasive plant management
• Installing and maintaining rain gardens and bioswales, and other small- scale stormwater management strategies
• Operate and maintain a variety of hand tools and light equipment.
• Follow project plans and instructions from supervisor.
• Maintain clean, organized job sites.
• Observe and report site conditions, hazards, and progress.
• Communicate in professional manner with clients

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of native plant communities of the Mid-Atlantic and ecological horticulture practices.
• Demonstrated experience with naturalistic gardens and/or natural area management.
• Manual dexterity and stamina
• Ability to bend, kneel, walk, stand, crouch for long periods of time during the workday.
• Ability to use a wide range of hand tools safely.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday.
• Ability to work in a range of outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, rain, mud, etc.
• Ability to drive and maneuver a pick-up truck pulling a loaded trailer.
• Clean and valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Flexibility with work hours
• Experience with hardscape and landscape carpentry is preferred.

Education: Preferred applicants will hold a B.S. in Environmental Science, Sustainable Design, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture or related field of study or posess related field experience.

Compensation:
