The Riverview School District is seeking a candidate for the position of Head Varsity Football Coach for the 2026 fall season. The ideal candidate should have extensive high school varsity experience as a head coach or offensive/defensive coordinator, as well as collegiate playing experience. The head coach will be responsible for assembling his coaching staff, coordinating the Varsity, J.V. and 7/8 grade programs, as well as the off-season weightlifting and O.T.A. programs in accordance with WPIAL/PIAA regulations.

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: HEAD VARSITY FOOTBALL COACH
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possess leadership qualities that model maturity, professionalism, discipline, encouragement, respect, an understanding of adolescent needs and a student-focused philosophy.
2. Previous varsity football head coaching experience and/or offensive/defensive coordinator experience from a successful high school or NCAA program.
3. Football playing experience at the NCAA level.
4. Must have all required clearance certifications, along with updated certifications in Concussion Management, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, and Act 126 Child Abuse Awareness.
5. Experience associated with activities related to the essential functions noted in this job description.
6. The above qualifications are required of any successful candidate. However, the Board/District shall have the discretion, but is not required, to consider any other experience which the Board/District, in its discretion, determines to be comparable or of a similar nature, and in the absence of a candidate possessing all required qualifications, may, but shall not be required to, award the position based upon comparable/similar experience.
REPORTS TO: Directly to the Athletic Director and indirectly to the Principal
SUPERVISES: Assistant Coaches at all levels, and athletes
GOAL: To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills along with community outreach and creative program development strategies to establish a competitive football program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains and utilizes leadership qualities that include maturity, professionalism, discipline, encouragement, respect, an understanding of adolescent needs and a student-focused philosophy
2. Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring and assigning of coaching staff
3. Establishes and supervises a strong off-season weightlifting program
4. Plans and implements off-season organized team activities (O.T.A.’s)
5. Plans and implements a summer conditioning program
6. Attends all mandatory district, W.P.I.A.L./P.I.A.A. meetings
7. Attends all Eastern Football Conference meetings and awards ceremonies
8. Directs, and supervises the development of players in the varsity, J.V. and 7/8th grade football programs
9. Recommends the dismissal of a staff member whose work is unsatisfactory, according to the established procedures
10. Assumes responsibility for the conduct and sportsmanship of staff and players
11. Maintains high standards of conduct and enforces discipline, as necessary, to his staff and players
12. Develops a program of public relations to further the communities’ understanding and support of the football program
13. Organizes youth clinics and youth coaching clinics to stimulate early interest
14. Assumes responsibility of ordering equipment and supplies within budgetary limits
15. Establishes a scouting schedule and film exchange as prescribed by the Eastern Football Conference
16. Organization of a preseason parents meeting to establish expectations and lines of communication
17. Is responsible for the creation of the specific game plan and practices for each weekly opponent
18. Conducts staff meetings on a weekly basis to implement the game plan
19. Keeps abreast of trends, developments and research as they pertain to the sport.
20. Keeps accurate statistics that can be used by media and maintenance of school records.
21. Maintains an accurate inventory of all equipment and storage location of said equipment.
22. Collects and stores uniforms at season end, preparing/sending equipment needing reconditioning to the appropriate outfitter.
23. Completes evaluation forms for all assistant coaches
24. Abides by all policies as described in the Riverview School District Athletic Handbook
25. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Athletic Director, principal or W.P.I.A.L. may from time to time assign
26. The coach will assist his athletes in obtaining scholarships and/or opportunities to play collegiate level athletics as relevant to student skills and academic ability.
