Job Summary

We're seeking a driven, proactive, and skilled Director of Finance and Operations to lead our Accounting and Finance functions, while also taking on additional Operations based responsibilities. This role requires a strategic thinker with exceptional communication skills, a strong customer-first mindset, and the ability to oversee high-stakes projects independently. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a proven track record of understanding and communicating complex financial and accounting concepts in an easy to understand manner, managing complex projects, and driving growth.

This position offers a hybrid and remote work models, with preference being given to hybrid candidates. You'll need to bring a knowledge of accounting skills, an analytical mind, and an unquenchable thirst for personal growth, all wrapped-up in a cooperative team mindset.

Responsibilities

The accuracy and timeliness of routine accounting tasks will be critical, but the key value-add for this position will come from a self-starter who can work with management team colleagues to establish and track the key underlying metrics of the business

• Report to the COO and serve as part of the broader management team
• Prepare monthly corporate financial statements on time
• Manage all bookkeeping and accounting tasks in Sage 300 with the help of an experienced accountant. Knowledge of Great Plains, Net Suite, or other mid-level accounting system is helpful
• Manage accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, and GL (includes journal entries, resolution of overdue accounts with customers/suppliers, revenue recognition, bank reconciliations etc.)
• Manage cash accounts and cash flow actively
• Interface with bank
• Oversee/run monthly/annual close process, including close calendar and checklist, while working with the business stakeholders, and the staff accountant to ensure a timely close
• Provide advice on company financial and investment decisions
• Analyze company data and market trends to make financial predictions and maximize profit
• Oversee interactions with external accounts for financial statements and tax work
• Prepare periodic and ad hoc financial reporting and analysis
• Manage and monitor the company's expenditures by preparing the budget versus actual report on a monthly basis, forecast expenditures and help explaining significant actual vs budget variances
• Add additional value by being able to directly and indirectly work throughout our organization to identify areas of improvement and work with key stakeholders to implement the changes required

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
• 4-7 years of experience in Finance or related field
• CPA preferred but not required
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills. An ability to communicate tactfully, verbally and in writing with vendors and customers to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (v-lookup, pivot tables, etc.)
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities effectively and meet deadlines
• Willingness to be hands-on in a dynamic fast paced startup environment
