Reports To: Data Scientist
Purpose
The Data Scientist is responsible for data modeling, model deployment, and model training, focusing on leveraging data to improve patient outcomes, optimize pharmacy operations, and support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will have experience in healthcare analytics, a strong foundation in statistical modeling and machine learning, and a passion for using data to drive innovation in specialty pharmacy services.
Responsibilities
- Develops predictive models to support business needs. Identify patient adherence risks, optimize medication therapy management, etc.
- Applies machine learning techniques to uncover patterns in patient behavior, treatment efficacy, and operational efficiency.
- Translates complex data into actionable insights for pharmacy leadership and clinical teams.
- Participates in the end-to-end lifecycle of AI projects, from ideation to model deployment and monitoring.
- Supports strategic initiatives such as value-based care programs, payer reporting, and clinical trial analytics.
- Works with data engineers to ensure data integrity, accessibility, and security across pharmacy systems.
- Cleans, transforms, and validates large datasets from EMRs, claims, dispensing systems, and patient engagement platforms.
- Works with Data Architect to evaluate and implement new tools, technologies, and methodologies to advance the organization’s AI capabilities.
- Communicates complex technical concepts and project outcomes to non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership.
- Champions data governance, quality, and security best practices across the organization.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience in data science.
- Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Strong understanding of data privacy, security, and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience with healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR, NCPDP) and familiarity with HIPAA compliance.
- Experience with NLP for clinical text analysis.
- Knowledge of payer-provider dynamics and specialty pharmacy reimbursement models.
- Familiarity with the Azure cloud platform and Azure Databricks.
Work Environment
This position operates in a home or professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Visual acuity is necessary for tasks such as reading or working with various forms of data for extended periods on a computer screen.
