Wireless Communications Systems Hardware Engineer

ALSTOM Transport USA Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, has a Wireless Communications Systems Hardware Engineer position responsible for designing, testing, and commissioning wireless communication for the APM based on the infrastructure (a tunnel or open air). This is a Pittsburgh-based and hybrid position offering the ability to work from home on Monday and Friday each week with in-office work required on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week in the Pittsburgh, PA office. Specific duties include: (i) designing and commissioning Wireless Communication systems for various projects; (ii) configuring networking devices using appropriate protocols based on security, topology, and technology; (iii) setting up data networks and Radio Frequency communication systems, including fiber optic distribution and network switch/router/firewall software; (iv) providing support in the selection of hardware appropriate to design requirements and specifications; (v) optimizing existing networks; (vi) interfacing and collaborating with sub-systems engineers and third parties for design and implementation; (vii) providing product development and planning support for next generation RF systems; (viii) applying knowledge of communications theory concepts such as modulation, noise, delay spread, latency, processing gain, divisional multiple access methods, and bit error rates during design and testing; and (ix) ensuring schedule and quality of work are maintained.

Must have a bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical/Electronics, Information Systems/Telecommunications, Engineering or a directly related field of study and one (1) year of experience designing, testing, and commissioning or conducting maintenance of wireless communication networks and systems.

In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, must have six (6) years of experience in a related position(s), which includes three (3) years of experience in wired/wireless networking and three (3) years of experience designing, testing, and commissioning or conducting maintenance of wireless communication networks and systems.

Experience can be concurrent.
