Quality Control Microbilogy Manager
This position will lead a small team of technicians in the Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) department, fostering a culture of excellence. You will ensure that quality and safety are integrated into day-to-day operations and long-term strategies. The role is accountable for ensuring that the company's products and services meet the required quality standards, from raw materials to finished products. You will collaborate with managers to develop quality standards, assess test results, and approve recommended changes. Additionally, you will review quality control documentation and report on its effectiveness, accuracy, and relevance.
Responsibilities- Develop Quality Control Plans for production and manufacturing unit operations.
- Monitor and manage the traceability of raw material quality and finished goods.
- Update facilities, policies, systems, and documentation to meet regulations set by federal, state, and local authorities, as well as all applicable certifying bodies.
- Represent the company to external stakeholders such as certifiers, customers, and authorities.
- Implement and renew the certifications required by customers.
- Provide leadership for developing and directing Quality Assurance, Inspection, Laboratory, and Quality improvement by scheduling and recording regular internal audits.
- Implement new Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Quality control and identify, write, and revise standard operating procedures, work instructions, and laboratory policies, procedures, and standard practices.
- Promote company-wide quality awareness and compliance.
- Manage the review and approval of complaints and non-conformances, and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action of nonconforming products (internally and externally).
- Ensure effective management of customer escalations, and timely and effective communication and resolution of issues that help drive customer satisfaction.
- Interact effectively with Fermentation, Production, and Maintenance teams to establish best practices, process control, discipline, and formulation of quality planning.
- Ensure the quality of finished goods based on legal and certification regulations, as well as customer needs.
- Conduct and record environmental analyses, storage suitability, and other controls and analyses specified in the quality control plan during certain stages of production, storage, and shipment operations.
- Provide information and guidance to relevant departments regarding the results of these analyses.
- Manage and monitor safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for employee health and safety.
- Implement safety training programs and initiatives for workplace safety.
- Ensure the company complies with OSHA guidelines and other safety-related regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments and enforce preventative measures.
- Create and implement safety plans, ensuring they are followed daily.
- Maintain documentation of the company's safety procedures, accidents, and related events.
- Conduct monthly and new hire safety training as needed.
- Conduct contractor safety training as needed.
- Maintain OSHA log and submit periodic safety reports.
- Lead plant safety committee and conduct internal safety audits.
- Extensive experience in quality control operations in the food, biotech, high-tech, probiotics, or feed manufacturing industry.
- 10+ years of Microbiology quality experience with a minimum of 5 years of management experience.
- Proficiency in Quality control, Quality assurance, Microbiology, Fermentation, CAPA, Investigation, Root cause analysis, QC, QC testing, Bacteria, and Bacterial fermentation.
- Master of Science or bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Quality Management, Food Science, or a relevant degree program; or a degree in an EHS-related field of study.
- Multiple years of health, safety, and environmental experience required, with manufacturing experience preferred.
